We had a trip to north Wales last week to the coastal town of Tywyn (pronounced 'tow' as in truck- win)

Our first full day in Tywyn was a bit mirky although mild enough.

We set out for a walk on the northern coastal side of the town to the hamlet of Tonfanau.

[community profile] moodthemeinayear, a community dedicated to creating custom mood themes, is starting its next round of the Minimum and Medium Mood Tracks tonight. If you're interested in following along and organizing enough images to min-max a custom mood theme on the Minimum Track, or branching out a little farther on the Medium Track, now is a great time to start! And feel free to join in on the Maximum Track simultaneously, if you want to really diversify your mood theme.

Meanwhile, in NSFW news, [community profile] summerofthe69 has opened up theme suggestions for the 2025 round. Summer of the 69 is a festival dedicated to works featuring the sexual position, open to all fandoms and to original creations. It runs from June 9th through September 6th, to encompass "6/9" in both common date formats: Month first and day first. Themes are posted once a week and run for two weeks each, with the exception of the final two, which are cut short by the date. Theme voting will open on May 1st and run through May 15th, to give potential participants time to plan for the fest.

Book #6 from the "Women in Translation" rec list was Butter: A Novel of Food and Murder by Asako Yuzuki, translated from Japanese by Polly Barton. This novel is about a journalist seeking to score an exclusive interview with convicted 3-time murderer Manako Kajii. Kajii is in prison for killing three of her lovers, all older, well-off, lonely men, and with her retrial coming up soon, journalist Rika Machida thinks it's the perfect time for another focus feature on the famous murderess. However, the more time she spends with Kajii, the more she wonders if maybe Kajii is the only one seeing the situation clearly.

This book has been billed in some places as a crime thriller or murder mystery, but it's not really, so if you go into it expecting that, I fear you'll be disappointed. The core of the book isn't really whether Kajii killed her lovers or not. What this book really was is to interrogate societal attitudes in Japan, which it does through a lot of introspection on the part of Rika.

turlough: closeup of different varieties of daffodils ((spring) flower of the season)

It's definitely spring here now and on my walk this afternoon I spotted these stunningly bright yellow flowers huddling in the (dry) grass of a neglected front garden. They're Pheasant's Eyes (Adonis vernalis) and this garden is the only place I've ever seen it. It's a very rare plant in the wild here in Sweden but there's supposed to be cultivars around even though I've never seen any myself.
